Carbon Beach, also referred to locally as “Billionaires Beach,” lies just east of the Malibu Pier and extends along the Pacific Coast Highway to Carbon Canyon Road. With its deep, sandy lots, and unique crescent-shaped coast, Carbon Beach is considered the epitome of luxury beachfront living. Since there are only a limited number of lots for anyone to call “home,” Carbon Beach reigns supreme as the most prestigious address in the Malibu area.
Carbon Beach homes are uniquely situated on a highly coveted dry, sandy beach with gentle sand slopes running between the homes and the waves. There are no sea walls that separate the space between the homes and the sea and Carbon residents enjoy the luxury of having vast amounts of dry sand to use, no matter what the tide is. With only two public beach paths, residents here enjoy a higher level of privacy than can be found at other beaches in the area.
Located on this exclusive stretch of sand are some of the finest, and most expensive, beach homes to be found anywhere in the world. Carbon Beach is home to many of the entertainment and technology industries leaders whose discerning tastes are reflected in the diverse styles of architecture on this part of the coast. Many older beach homes on Carbon have been demolished and replaced with much larger, more modern structures. One of the most famous homes on this beach is the John Lautner-designed “Stevens House” with it’s arching walls of cement and impressive facets of glass windows.
Carbon Beach’s residents now have the added perk of being able to walk along the sand to enjoy a meal at the new Malibu location of Nobu restaurant.
Carbon Beach homes for sale start at around $6m, but at that price we might be inclined to refer to it as a “tear down.” Single lot homes average around $10-$15m, but larger homes on double or triple lots have been recording sales high as $50m or more.
