Located between Latigo Point and Escondido Beach is the very private enclave of beach homes called the Malibu Cove Colony. With its own private road and 24-hour guarded and gated entrance, Cove Colony residents enjoy a very private and secure neighborhood. The road is less than a mile long and most homes are constructed on caissons with the average lot being 40 feet in width. At low and medium tides, there is plenty of beach to enjoy, but during some higher tides, the waves will rush up to the base of the homes. Not such a bad thing if you are dining on your deck and enjoy the natural spectacle of waves breaking nearly beneath you.
Malibu Cove Colony is very close to the highly regarded Geoffrey’s restaurant and a 5-minute walk will get you in front of someone to take your drink order at sunset. There are tennis courts across PCH where membership will allow you use of two courts and facilities. A little further up the coast, but still walkable, is the Paradise Cove Beach Café.
One of the best features about homes in the Malibu Cove Colony is the way the are oriented with views of Point Dume and the dramatic sheer bluffs of Little Dume. Being in the lee of the Point, the beaches here also enjoy shelter from the afternoon northwest winds.
A nice Malibu Cove Colony home can be purchased for around $7m and is usually about 20% less expensive than the homes found on the continually dry sand beach on Malibu Road. The homes here are also very easy to rent out when not in use with most being right around $50k to $60k per month in the summer.
