Just got off the phone with my title rep. and let me tell you….Howie Mandel is one hell of a deal maker. What else would you expect from the host of “Deal or No Deal”?
The best part about this sale was that Howie knew what price he wanted, held out for it, and got it…even if it took over two years. In fact, Howie was so confident about the value of his home that he raised the price $500,000 after it sat on the market for the first 15 months.
There were supposedly several offers but none were able to out deal the deal master himself. I would love to believe that any counter offers that went back to prospective buyers simply said “No Deal”.
Think about it for a minute. There’s no way a host of a deal making game show would sell his home for anything less than a price that made him look like he didn’t win. Can you imagine being the buyer, seeing the home, then trying to figure out a strategy when you found out who you were negotiating with? The only way to win that game is make an offer with a seven in front of it and be prepared to go all the way to the asking price.
When you see the home that was sold it’s easy to see why Howie could hold out for the price he wanted. I had been in the home a few times and it hand’s down the nicest ocean view Nantucket Style Home on Point Dume. The Doug Burdge designed home is located on Dume Drive along the section that has enormous views of the Santa Monica Bay. There’s a large two story guest house next to an oversized pool. Next to that is a section of lawn that could host a serious football game. Inside the home you’d see hand scraped wood floors, carrera marble, open beams, and lots of custom molding….details everywhere.
The home first came on the Malibu real estate market in Nov. 2011. for $7,250,000. In Jan. 2013 the price increased to $7,750,000. Smart move because that was about the same time a flurry of activity hit the Point Dume market with dozens of sales happening in a short period of time.
Well done Mr. Mandel. Well Done. I see a real estate game show in your future.
UPDATE NOV 22. 2013. 11am- MLS showing sale price at $7,000,000
