Last week, along with my colleague John Snyder, I listed a property on a large estate in Lobo Canyon. A Point Dume home has finally been recorded with a sales price at $2.6m. The home, located on Dume Drive, came on the Malibu real estate market a few months back and instantly attracted the attention of dozens of buyers and it had multiple offers almost right away. On caravan, the place was overrun with agents trying to figure out which clients should get the first phone call to come and check it out.

What you should note about this sale is this…The house itself was only about 1400 sq.ft. but the lot was a good size with about 3/4 of an acre of flat and gently sloped land. The house could easily be added on too or could be downsized in to a guest house if a large house were to be built on the back portions of the lot.

So the new price point of a small house or ranch house on Point Dume is now at $2.6m …last year it was about $2m and we’re are talking about homes on Dume Drive. Small homes on the other prime streets, like Wildlife and Greyfox, are now even higher.

The most in demand spots are Carbon Beach, Malibu Road, Escondido Beach,... 

The 5 Most Expensive Malibu Beach Rentals

The rental season is upon us here in Malibu and it’s time for people to start reserving homes for the 2014 summer season. March is typically when my phone first starts to ring with people wanting to get a head start on securing Malibu beach rentals for June, July, and Aug. The most in demand spots are Carbon Beach, Malibu Road, Escondido Beach, and Point Dume. The best homes will be leased by April and by May the only places left are generally those with dated looks, funky smells, or crazy prices.

I just finished my first lease of the summer…a modest place a Latigo for $40k per month. This client started looking in back Feb. because she was afraid of not being able to find a good place for under $50k. For that price she secured a cute, but small, remodeled beach shack right above the water with a great surf break right in front.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 most expensive Malibu rentals just now hitting the market.
