There was a time not so long ago that a $100,000 per month Malibu summer rental was the talk of the town. Now it’s like, “Whatever, pass the Splenda, I gotta run to Pilates”. The new OMG price range is above $200,000 per month or higher and it shouldn’t be long before someone makes a run at $300k.
Do they get rented? Yes. Just when you think there is no way anyones going to pay that amount, the listing quietly gets withdrawn from the MLS, and a fleet of black Chevy suburbans with funny little TCP letters on the back bumper appear in front of the address.
Who are these people? In the upper digits it’s likely sheiks, royalty, oil barons, and guys who like horses under the hood or in the stable. It’s not the A-list actors that have business managers with good sense; they tend to stay in the $100k and under club.
Call for a showing but to see any of these you’ll need to be seriously qualified. Swiss bank statements, a truck load of gold bullion, or showing up with Mark Zuckerberg should all be fine.

A Carbon beach home hit the lease market this morning at $200,000 per month! This section of Malibu is also known as Billionaires Beach and for good reason. Some of the biggest names in entertainment, technology, and investment banking have purchased double, and triple lots and built some of the largest beach homes in California. Let’s break it down a bit…..The daily price calcs out to about $6500 per day. A bargain when checking out this top ten list of most expensive hotel rooms around the world with the top five all above $30k per night. March is the month when summer beach rentals and leases come on the Malibu Real Estate market. If you haven’t secured your beach rental by the middle of May you are likely to find yourself building sand castles in Mojave. I predict this year lease prices will be slightly lower than last years but the premium beaches like Broad Beach, The Colony, Carbon Beach, and Malibu Road, will still command high prices. Summer Rental prices on the low end will be around $10,000 and top at at $100,000 or more for the best beach houses. E-mail Me if you’d like a list of available rentals sent to you. The gilded age continues! For $150,000 per month, with a two month minimum, you can rent the ultimate get away house. The home, located on Cliffside Drive on Point Dume, has 4 bedrooms and 8 baths with enough interior space to park a few Gulf Stream V’s. There is a direct trail to the beach and you can run around the property naked if you please because you will have total privacy. You are going to have to cough up a nice security deposit of $300,000 which means you’d better be ready to cut a check for $450,000 to move in for the first month. Let’s work with smaller numbers ya’ll can grasp. It’s only $200 per hour or $5000 per day. Considering that the Presidential Suite at Shutters in Santa Monica is $3500 per night, renting this for a mere $1500 more makes sense, right?. Why rent a room in a hotel when you can rent a Mansion? The only downside to staying here is that you can’t walk outside and buy fake sunglasses or watch guys in Dolphin shorts skating on the Venice Boardwalk. Oh well.
